CHATSWORTH, Calif.—The 2010 GAYVN Awards will take place in conjunction with the annual Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco in late September, the AVN Media Network announced Tuesday.
The festivities will occur either Sept. 25 or 26, depending upon the availability of the venue. She added the precise date would be confirmed in early April.
This year marks the 12th annual presentation of the awards, which honor outstanding achievement in the gay adult entertainment industry. Folsom Street Fair has been a San Francisco tradition since 1984 and is one of the world’s largest leather events. Proceeds from the fairs are distributed to organizations that promote a sense of community, diversity, cooperation, health and human services.
“Folsom Street Events welcomes the GAYVN Awards to San Francisco Leather Week with open legs,” said Folsom Street Events Executive Director Demetri Moshoyannis. “The gay adult film industry’s best porn stars will mix and mingle with thousands of sex-positive gay men from all over the world [who will be] in town for Folsom Street Fair. This is a fantastic opportunity for the industry to showcase its stars for the most ravenous consumers. It’s going to be one very sexy week.”
Gay adult video-on-demand provider NakedSword.com will be a GAYVN Awards presenting sponsor for the second year in a row. The company also is a presenting sponsor of Folsom Street Fair.
“NakedSword can’t wait to spread all of its love on the new partnership between its two most valued, longest-lasting relationships,” said President Tim Valenti. “I can’t think of a happier marriage than the biggest leather festival with the biggest porn awards show.”
Due to the change in date—from April to September—the deadline for GAYVN Awards pre-nominations has been extended, and the period during which nominated materials must have been produced has been expanded. In order to be considered for a 2010 award, a production must have been released between Jan. 1, 2009, and May 31, 2010. Newcomers, studio marketing campaigns and web-based promotions and marketing efforts must have debuted during the same period.
“We will leave the GAYVN Awards pre-nominations site open through June 15 for companies to continue submitting nominations,” Gibson said.

DVD and web categories are included in this year’s lineup. The Trailblazer award will be presented for the second time. Channel 1 Releasing co-founder and GAYVN Hall of Fame director Chi Chi LaRue received the first-ever Trailblazer award during 2009’s ceremony.
