CYBERSPACE - A former gay adult performer who is now a Marine Corp reservist and conservative journalist, seems to be demanding Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama get off the fence about gay rights or lose the support of LBGT voters.
Either that or he's trying to rile up both liberals and social conservatives about alleged inconsistencies in Obama's stance on gay marriage and transgendered people serving in the military.
Matt Sanchez, who in the early 1990s performed under the "noms de porn" Rod Majors and Pierre LaBranche, wrote in a meandering editorial at WorldNetDaily that Obama has a "gay problem." Most of that problem, according to Sanchez, derives from what Sanchez calls mixed messages in Obama's campaign.
In the editorial, entitled "Queerly Beloved," Sanchez stated, "The man who calls himself ‘the most consistent advocate on LGBT issues' is particularly suspect [on issues of gay rights].
"The history between Obama and the LGBT movement goes way back," he stated in the editorial. "The Barack Obama for President campaign got early seed money from billionaire, gay activist and entertainment executive David Geffen. [But] the honeymoon did not last. Obama ruffled LGBT sensitivities when an ex-gay gospel singer headlined during the early days of Obama's presidential run. Gay activists protested to have the singer removed from the campaign."
Now that California's Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional the state's gay marriage ban, Obama is even more wishy-washy about gay issues, Sanchez alleged. The court's decision "has [all] the candidates for the presidency declaring their dedication to the traditional definition of marriage," he wrote. At the same time, though, Obama told The Advocate (which Sanchez calls "the modern-day Pravda of the pink-triangle set"), "The transgendered community has to be protected. I just don't have any tolerance for that sort of intolerance. And I think we need to legislate aggressively to protect them."
It's not entirely clear from Sanchez' editorial exactly where his sentiments lie vis-à-vis the LGBT community. He doesn't think transgender individuals belong in the military, and he doesn't appear to like any of the presidential candidates. He calls on both lesbians and the right wing of the Republican Party to hound Obama about his beliefs and suggests the mainstream American media pay particular attention to the candidate's agenda.
"Like a staph infection resistant to aggressive antibiotics, Barack Obama has a gay problem that will keep returning if only the American media will recognize and examine the symptoms," Sanchez wrote.
The rant comes from a man who not only now calls his brief gay-porn career "an identity outgrown" but also has been investigated by the U.S. Marines not only for appearing in gay porn, but also for alleged improprieties associated with fund-raising for what the Marines termed a non-existent overseas deployment.
WorldNetDaily refers to Sanchez as "a war correspondent who was embedded with the American, Iraqi and Afghan military" and "a frequent political commentator in both American and French media."
