‘FlavaMen’ Magazine Launches Blatino Awards

MIAMI FlavaMen, a five-year-old quarterly magazine devoted to eroticism and men of color, has opened nominations for its inaugural FlavaMen Blatino Awards.

The awards, created to honor clubs, adult performers and websites devoted to ethnic erotica, will be presented at a ceremony the magazine intends to make an annual event. The 2009 presentation will be part of the Atlanta Black Pride celebration scheduled to occur during Labor Day weekend.

Launched during winter 2004, FlavaMen remains strong despite the economic woes troubling the publishing and adult entertainment industries, according to Dan Nelson, creative director of parent company Flava Works.

“I am saddened to hear of the closure of some of the staple magazines in the gay industry,” Nelson said. “FlavaMen magazine has a huge void to fill, but I think we can handle the task.”

The majority of that task involves presenting full-frontal photo spreads of black and Latino men, in addition to articles about and interviews from within the ethnic gay community.

Awards nominations will be accepted through June 30 at BlatinoAwards.com. More information about voting may be obtained from the spring and summer issues of FlavaMen magazine.
