Factory Videos Celebrates 12th Anniversary

SAN FRANCISCO—Factory Videos Inc. has come a long way since the gay adult studio began with nothing more than a computer inside a walk-in closet converted into a makeshift office. Though they’re proud of the loyal fan following their products have gained in the 12 years since, owners Scott Morris and Gord Reece said they’re not about to rest on their laurels.

“We’ve always been seen as something of an outsider in gay porn,” Morris said. “It’s been a good thing for us because we don’t feel restricted in ways we might have been. Our business model has always included embracing change, and being prepared for new technology.”

Early on, that preparation for new technology led Factory to become one of the first gay adult video companies to offer video for sale online. That move, said Morris, helped the studio to gain a loyal fan base much more quickly than it might have otherwise, particularly since Factory specializes in a type of content that was uncommon in the company’s early days.

“We hired guys to model based on their attitudes about sex as much as their great looks,” Morris said. “The result was video with guys who are approachable and intimate—genuine sex pigs.”

As soon as Morris and Reece incorporated their fledgling endeavor, they began to expand. Today Factory Videos serves as an umbrella for a variety of small, focused studios and lines. Today the company parents Factory Video Productions, Blue Alley Studios, PumpHouse Media, ThreshHold Media, Street Trade Studios, Cum Pig Men, Factory Bareback and Factory Extreme. Morris, Reece and their staff also run CumPigMen.com, DudesRaw.com, FilthyGayPics.com and the affiliate program DickBank.com.

Morris and Reece are exceptionally proud of the free hookup and social-networking site CumHunt.com. The series Cum Suckers put Factory Videos on the map, so it only seemed logical to offer fans of cum eating an opportunity to connect in the real world.

“Cum eating was an untouched market in hookup sites,” said site manager Marc Sterling. “We have always been ready to fill the needs of gay men who aren’t being served.”

Similarly, Morris and Reece said they saw an unfulfilled niche in bareback content. In 2005 the pair founded ThreshHold Media to reach that market, and later Factory Bareback joined the fold, as well.

“Meeting the needs of our fans and our models is important to us,” Morris said. “A choice between condoms, or not, fits that goal.”

As for the future, Reece, Morris and their crew said they can’t wait to see what challenges await.

“Whatever happens in the future, we are ready to be there for our fans,” Reece said. “We have always included the fans when deciding what we do. We know that good quality and good value will keep fans coming back. We know, because they tell us.”

The Factory Videos family will be represented at San Francisco Gay Pride this weekend. Models and staff members will be on hand at the studio’s booth, where fans can enter a raffle and take advantage of special deals, Morris said.
