WASHINGTON - Gay adult entertainment producer FPG Entertainment will make changes to its employment policies, effective Jan. 1. The company's statement about the matter follows:
"In recent months FPG Entertainment has followed very closely the continued debates surrounding the production of bareback movies. At FPG, we have always promoted safe-sex practices within our productions; we do this because we are well aware of the dramatic increase of diseases spreading not only in the gay community, but within all communities. As a producer of adult content, we feel strongly that we have an obligation to show our models only engaged in safe sex. We also find it difficult to understand how any producer in today's day and age would put its models at risk and then try to downplay the dangers of showing unsafe sex practices in its films.
"At FPG we hire a wide variety of models to appear in our films, and the safety of our models has been always our top priority. We have invested a lot of resources to make sure all our performers are not only treated with respect, but that they also are assured a high standard in their working environment both on and off the set.
"FPG never has produced any bareback movies, and beginning Jan. 1, 2008, we will limit ourselves to casting only models who never have been involved in a bareback production. In addition, we also will require each performer to be AIM tested prior to being cast in one of our productions. We feel this decision is in the best interests of our models, the community and our company.
"In addition, FPG will continue to take a strong stand against the abuse of models within the adult industry. Many models are not being treated with respect and are grossly underpaid because they are either young, inexperienced or in need of money. The adult business is full cheap producers who seem to have a penchant for taking advantage of new talent. For that reason FPG has decided to utilize exclusively the services of a reputable talent agent who can guarantee and protect the interests of both parties with professional business decorum. FPG believes each model should be treated with the highest consideration and respect no matter what his age or level of experience."
