'BearParty Magazine' Refines its Focus in Third Year

SAN FRANCISCO - With publication of its winter 2009 issue, BearParty Magazine has embarked upon its third year. The international glossy, distributed free at bars, clubs and events, has added a food column and some political commentary.

"It's 2009, and the short-lived gay marriage rights in California have been suspended," founders and publishers Ken and Mike wrote in their introduction to the latest issue. "Grrr! But ask us if we can overcome this setback, and the answer is a solid ‘Yes, we can.' By the time you read this, the United States of America will have a new administration. That's a hopeful sign of change, and certainly worth a woof."

In addition to the usual bear comics, bear galleries, features about bear-friendly events, celebrities, trends, products and news, the new issue includes a food column from chef Dale Duprat. Duprat's inaugural words include a recipe for fiesta chicken.

Also inside the new issue is a feature about bear artist Jerry Frost's colorful abstract paintings and a backstage visit with event producer Sean M. Johnson. Mark Wulfgar's comic series also takes a prominent spot.

The magazine has been available in print since early 2007. It also may be read online at the website BearParty.
