Badpuppy Re-Launches GayToday with Help from TheSword

SAN FRANCISCO - After a three-year hiatus, Badpuppy has re-launched the daily free news site GayToday with help from NakedSword's TheSword news and entertainment site. TheSword's original content will appear on GayToday via an RSS feed.

"The partnership with GayToday helps us expand TheSword's audience while increasing the overall value of Badpuppy's site," said TheSword editor in chief Michael Stabile. "We're excited that our first fully syndicated feed is with Badpuppy, one of our oldest friends in the business."

GayToday began as a resource for anyone interested in gay life in America. Editor in chief Jack Nichols joined the staff in 1997, bringing with him a group of writer-activists including Raj Ayyar, Bill Berkowitz, Perry Brass, Paul D. Cain, Patricia Conklin, John Demetry, Corrine Hicks, Anita Lee, Robert N. Minor, Ph.D., Jesse Monteagudo, Rodger Streitmatter, Ph.D., Randolfe H. Wicker and Rex Wockner. The site's content often was racy and controversial but always uplifting.

Despite nearly 75,000 weekly unique visitors, GayToday's operations ceased in 2005 due to budget constraints and Nichols' death, according to Badpuppy marketing manager Lisa Turner.

"We here at Badpuppy are thrilled to work hand-in-hand with TheSword in this venture," Turner said. "It lays the path for two great opportunities, with the first one being a means to breathe fresh life into our once very well-known media website, GayToday, making it once again a daily read for thousands of visitors. Secondly, [the deal represents] a new opportunity to work with friends we've known and respected within the industry for more than a decade."
