SAN FRANCISCO – Athletic Model Guild believes it has accomplished a first for the gay adult entertainment industry: The studio announced Monday it has received approval from Apple to offer its new AMG Brasil Boys application for the iPhone and iPod in Apple’s iTunes App Store.
“Just as [AMG founder] Bob Mizer pushed America’s moral boundaries for decades, resulting in the birth of gay porn by the late 1960s, we are proud to announce that AMG Brasil Boys is the very first gay adult app that Apple has allowed into their store,” AMG President Dennis Bell said. “We already have much more in store when Apple releases the ‘mature audiences’ feature in their iPhone 3.0 software—due to release later this week—but for now, we are proud to give our customers images of their favorite Brazilian porn stars on the very latest cutting-edge viewing platform.”
The app, which went on sale Sunday in the iTunes App Store, is the studio’s first attempt at creating mobile applications and retails for 99 cents per download. The product consists of a gallery containing more than 100 images of Brazilian models from the studio’s award-winning hardcore brand AMG Brasil. Users may set the images as wallpaper or share them with friends.
According to Fortune magazine, the number of apps submitted to Apple for approval reached more than 40,000 by the end of April. Despite the numbers, no other gay adult app has made it through the approval process. As Bell pointed out, Apple has not yet opened its store interface to mature content, which is why AMG Brasil Boys features only softcore material.
“It’s funny, but there are a lot of parallels to be drawn here,” said Christopher Trout, AMG’s director of communications. “Sure, we won’t be sent to a work camp if our application is denied by Apple, but the restrictions smack of an old-school sensibility that’s proven faulty. Bob Mizer wasn’t allowed to show nudity for much of his early career, and now we’re getting a taste of that.
“But people want the whole hog, and we’ll be right there to give it to them the second we’re allowed to,” he added. “You can only deny us dick so long before something goes horribly wrong.”
Bell said AMG already has created a series of iPhone apps that will display full-frontal nudity. The new line of applications promotes both the AMG Classics and AMG Brasil brands. According to Trout, the apps are part of a larger campaign to bring the historic studio into the 21st Century. The effort started earlier this year with the re-launch of the studio’s dual membership sites AthleticModelGuild.com and AMGBrasil.com.
