Biography

One of the true visionaries of adult entertainment, Texas-born director Michael Raven has been basking in the critical and financial acclaim of what may well be the two signature works of his career. "The Visitors" was a milestone of unparalleled stature in its genre, a brilliant examination of alien abduction imbued with true philosophical weight, as well as stunning special effects and erotic encounters. Featuring Kirsten Price and Keri Sable, "The Visitors" represented the culmination of everything that has established this maverick personality as one of the adult genre's most important technicians. At the 2007 AVN Awards, the title earned an impressive 13 nominations, including Best Video Feature, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. And now in the spectacular follow-up "Supernatural," Raven is exploring the spirit realm with the same seriousness that "The Visitors" brought to the world of alien abduction.

This keenly intelligent filmmaker began producing and directing erotica well over a decade ago, while still living in Texas. After his first major production was picked up for distribution by one of adult’s top distributors, the director moved to Los Angeles to further his career and cement his reputation. Raven’s flair for the stylish quickly made him one of adult films’ more prodigious and in-demand pioneers, and the inherent quality of his work quickly caught the eye of Wicked Pictures owner and founder Steve Orenstein, who was eager to have him direct for the company.

Raven’s first feature for Wicked Pictures was "Heroin," a strong plot-driven vehicle specifically written for Wicked Girl Sydnee Steele. He followed this effort with "Breathless," the beautifully shot crime drama starring Devinn Lane that won him the 2003 AVN Award for Best Director (Video), as well as a Best Actress award for its star and a Best Supporting Actress award for co-star Sydnee Steele. The triumphs continued with "Angel X," an AVN Editor’s Choice which garnered 2004 AVN noms for both Raven and the movie's charismatic star, Kaylani Lei. Also in 2004, Raven’s elaborately gothic Julia Ann vehicle "Beautiful" became an AVN Editor’s Choice and brought this gifted filmmaker some of the finest reviews of his career. Raven’s work on the movie ultimately won him AVN awards for Best Video, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, and Julia Ann also won for Best Actress. In June 2004, the two received the same noms from the XRCO, and the movie also received a special nomination from the VSDA for Adult Title of the Year.

2005 was another year of success for Raven, with the acclaimed director bringing Wicked Pictures attention in two AVN nominations categories for the first time: Best Interactive DVD (for "The Perfect Stormy") and Best High-Definition Production (for "Highway"). Raven’s stylish work received praise in many other categories as well, with his Julia Ann vehicle "Killer Sex & Suicide Blondes" snaring a total of eight nods, including Best Actress – Video and Best DVD, while his Kaylani Lei project "Blue Rain" received four nominations, including Best Video Feature and Best Director – Video.

Raven’s other Wicked titles include "American Dreams," "Erotik," "Perfect Life," and "Dark Sins," which have all been well received. "Art Of Love" was rewarded with a 2007 AVN nom for Best Vignette Release, and the multi-talented director's skill as a musician even earned him a 2007 Best Music nomination for his original score to the Carmen Hart vehicle "Honky Tonk Girl." Another critical success, "Women On Top," received both a Best Sex Comedy nomination, and a Best Actor nod for star Brad Armstrong.

As "Supernatural" so eloquently suggests, we may not be alone in the world, but one thing is certain - Michael Raven is alone at the very forefront of today's most technically innovative adult filmmakers.
