Alan Adrian a.k.a. Spike (real name John Mozzer) performed in adult movies during the tail end of the era when they were shot on film, and at the very beginning of the industry's move to low-budget video. While not starting out with aspirations to be an actor, he sought leading male character roles in hardcore feature films after being introduced to the business by agent Dorothy Palmer.
After proving himself to be reliable, Adrian was consistently hired for supporting roles, primarily in New York. Feature films with his longest on-screen time include Henri Pachard's Nasty Girls and G-strings, and Larry Revene's The Pleasures of Innocence.
Adrian also appears on the receiving end of heavy torture by female dominants in numerous S&M films and videos, because of his willingness to be public about his personal S&M fantasies. In the S&M genre, he is most known for his roles in Phil Prince's Oriental Techniques in Pain and Pleasure and Dr. Bizarro, and Fred Lincoln's Every Man's Fantasy. After 1986, he chose to perform only in S&M scenes because it was "safer sex"—one of the highlights being his role as the recipient of heavy cock and ball torture in Henri Pachard's Ariana Unleashed.
In addition to performing in adult movies, he published Weird Smut Comics and worked as a production coordinator at Larry Flynt Publications. During the mid 1990s, he became well known as Naked John by attending parties as the only naked person, for no apparent reason, primarily in Los Angeles
