NEW YORK — Mainstream director James Westby, creator of the 2005 comedy
Film Geek, takes on X-rated cinema in
The Auteur, screening this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Based on Westby's 2002 short of the same title, The Auteur stars Melik Malkasian as Arturo Domingo, the "Kubrick of porno" whose credits include
Purple Vein,
Requiem for a Wet Dream,
My Left Nut and
Children of a Lesser Wad.
While in Portland, Oregon for a retrospective of his work, Domingo is distracted by the fact that he's in the hometown of his long lost love, Fiona (Katherine Flynn), but remains intent on raising funds for the magnum opus he thinks will resuscitate his waning career:
Gang Bangs of New York.
Ron Jeremy makes an appearance in the film, and the supporting cast includes Cara Seymour (who actually was in the real
Gangs of New York, as well as
American Psycho,
Hotel Rwanda and
The Notorious Bettie Page, among other major motion pictures) and
Film Geek's Leslie Taylor.
