New Zoning in Muskogee

By Adrian Peterson

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Muskogee planning commissioners unanimously approved a proposed zoning amendment on Monday that would regulate adult-oriented businesses.

The proposed change will be considered today by Muskogee's Public Works Committee, the Muskogee Phoenix reported, and if approved, city councilors will take up the measure next week.

"For a long time this never had been an issue, but times change," said commissioner and Ward IV representative on the city council Shawn Raper. "I think the planner's idea is to ensure that stores selling adult videos do not locate downtown."

The zoning laws would require adult businesses to be located within restricted commercial districts and would restrict any adult business from locating within 300 feet of a church or school.
