Screaming O Holds L.A. Version of Olympics with Willie Gault

By Adrian Peterson

LOS ANGELES - Although the Olympics are in full throttle 6,000 miles away in Beijing, The Screaming O held their own version of the summer games with a foot race against former Olympic sprinter and Super Bowl champion Willie Gault.

Gault, who formerly played wide receiver for the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Raiders during his 11-year NFL career, was challenged by former Italian league basketball player and Screaming O president, Justin Ross. The end result? Irrefutable evidence...minus the infamous Russian Olympic judges.

The 47-year-old Gault had stopped by the Screaming O offices in Torrance to take advantage of an offer to get a discount for his retail store-owning friends, vice president Keith Caggiano said. That is when Ross issued the challenged. Minutes later, both were ready on the starting blocks. As the two readied for the race, controversy ensued as Ross was faced with a false start violation (pictured). Nevertheless, Gault resorted back to his world-class speed and was declared the winner.

"The picture clearly shows he jumped the gun," Gault said. Ross, however, thought otherwise. "I'm not sure where that picture came from, but I think it was doctored."

Caggiano went old school and compared the drama to an episode of Seinfeld and labeled it "bizarre." "If only Coach Bevilacqua was here to settle this," he laughed.

At the conclusion of the race, Ross, out of breath, shook hands and agreed to honor the discount.

"I'm just happy to be able to get the products because I know a lot of people that are screaming for them. But these guys are just kooky," exclaimed Gault with a smile.

Asked whether or not racing or competing for discounts was going to be a regular practice for The Screaming O, Ross said, "Koretsky, you're next!"
