DirectLink CEO Faces Off Against 'Focus On The Family' On Fox News Radio

The CEO of DirectLink Media Group and VideoStoreCash.com, Aaron Gordon, debated attorney Daniel Weiss, from Focus on the Family, Wednesday night on Alan Colmes' nationwide Fox News radio program.

The topics ranged from DirectLink's controversial FreePornForOurTroops.com Website to the legalities of pornography in America.

Colmes, who is known for his more liberal views, devoted over 40 minutes to the topic, often siding with the rights of consenting adults to view adult materials in the privacy of their own home. Gordon says the debate was spirited but one that seemed based on a level of respect, with the exception of one area.

According to the Family.org Website, Weiss, while preparing for his interview by viewing the FreePornForOurTroops.com, tried to turn DirectLink in to the U.S. Postal Inspector for allegedly distributing "obscenity" across state lines.

"I have a tremendous respect for a person's freedom of expression especially that of people who care for families like Mr. Weiss and the entire Focus on the Family organization," Gordon said. "However, I have no respect for someone who would try and notify the authorities prior to a radio interview by making a subjective determination on what he believes is 'obscene' material."

Focus on the Family began in 1977 and was founded by Dr. James Dobson. The organization's Website states that it makes "method attempts to 'turn hearts toward home' by reasonable, biblical and empirical insights so people will be able to discover the founder of homes and the creator of families: Jesus Christ."

Gordon said the callers and the debate was positive for the industry, but he was a little frightened by what he heard from Weiss.

"Mr. Weiss knew he was being heard nationwide as a representative for Focus on the Family, so would not come out and claim the group was against the entire industry. I believe this is a strategic ploy by organizations like this one to try and seem more centrist than on the right," Gordon said.

"On programs like this one, they simply try and say they are for 'the law' as applied in Miller v. California and not against pornography as a whole. It is their interpretation of this law that is the issue that our industry needs to be afraid of. At one point I asked him which videos we sell on our sites are 'not obscene.' He could not answer."

Gordon continued, "The strange part about it for me is as a father of two, I respect a tremendous amount of what the Focus on the Family organization does and I agree with many of the views of Mr. Dobson. I just think their position on the adult industry and their desire to end it is way off base and I believe it undermines the actual good they are trying to accomplish."
