Beyond the Birds and Bee's: Continuing Sexuality Education at Erotic University

Sex Ed isn't just for high school kids or college freshman anymore. Besides the basics of conception and contraception, protecting yourself from diseases, Erotic University picks up where traditional education left off, offering lessons in sexuality and technique that have largely been relegated to word-of-mouth conversations.

"A place like Erotic University is especially important now because sex education in traditional schools has completely failed," said EU founder Jeff Booth, who is also an author and sex educator. "The Abstinence Only education taught in most schools and mandated by the Federal Government in order to get governmental funding is riddled with misinformation and pseudo-science, and is intended to promote abstinence by making students afraid of sex. Many sexologists believe that this approach is leading to an increased incidence of sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction, even in marriage."

With sexologists, Ph.Ds, writers, and even porn stars teach at EU, the new school is well armed for their mission of promoting healthier attitudes about sex and greater acceptance of sexual diversity. Students will have access to the best available information from some of the leading authorities on sexuality and its practices in the United States.

"Frankly, I thought traditional sex educators would be too conservative to get on board with our idea of making sex education playful and fun, and not so dry and serious," he continued. "But many have told me that this is exactly what people need."

EU classes will be held every Saturday at a 30,000 square foot facility in downtown Los Angeles that also acts as a studio for both adult and mainstream productions during the week. Classes start May 24, though the the first class , which teaches the basics about pole dancing, in an area equipped with full dance floor and four dance poles, has already sold out.

The second class, May 31, will feature Village Voice columnist and sex educator Tristan Taromino, teaching "Kicking It up A Notch: Taking Sex to the Next Level." Taromino's class will cover how long term couples can put new or more spice into their intimate life together.

Future classes will include a class on adult novelties, an introduction to swinging, a class about working in the adult entertainment industry taught by porn star Layla Jade, and an intro to BDSM, flirting, and erotic photography.

"While we will be specific and explicit in the classes, they definitely wont be hands-on for legal and student comfort reasons," assured Booth. "We will give people homework assignments though and Im willing to bet no one will complain about that!"

Classes average $15 to $30 dollars, with a discount for couples. For more information, or to register for a class, check out their schedule at Erotic University.
