Spanish director Jess Franco has been famous for his erotic horror titles since the 1970?s. These days he's mostly shooting low-budget titles on video, but his cinematic vision remains.

Snakewoman tells the story of Carla (Fata Morgana), who travels to the south of Spain searching for the films of Oriana Balasz, a mysterious libertine and director of underground erotica during the war years. There she meets a nude girl with a snake tattoo (Carmen Montes) who may be the original Oriana's granddaughter – or perhaps an immortal vampire/succubus. A subplot involves a mental patient (Christie Levin) who is visited in her dreams by the naked snakewoman.

The pace is slow and languid, but rich in atmosphere and gratuitous nudity. The sexual action is limited to lesbianism and simulated oral, often with a bloody horror twist.

The main feature is in Spanish with English subtitles. The bonus material includes an entire second Franco feature, the surreal and cartoonish Dr. Wong's Virtual Hell.

Retailing: Franco is a name director in the erotic horror subgenre.
