From beginning to end this Paul Thomas quickie follows the plot of Billy Wilder's Kiss Me Stupid, a 1964 semi-classic that starred Dean Martin and Kim Novak. It's a crudely produced take-off, but the original material was gold, and some of it rubs off.

Manning plays a libidinous cowboy singing star ("If I don't get pussy every night I have a helluva hangover") who gets stranded in Kumshotte, Nevada. Wannabe songwriters Justin Magnum and Nick Jacobs plot to pimp out Magnum's wife, the beautiful Mercedez, in return for the singer recording their song.

But Magnum is so possessive of his mate that he hires a local waitress - Nicki Hunter, who shines in the Novak role - to impersonate her. Everybody wins in the end.

Thanks to the story, this hardcore copy is entertaining in spite of itself.

Retailing: Pair it with the DVD of the Hollywood original.
