This one's a surprise. Don't let the title and ads fool you. Here's a charming little comedy that definitely falls into the sleeper class. It's not as silly as Private Lessons, nor does it stoop to the crass, vulgar antics of Porky's. Instead, it offers a modest story with real-life characters that should keep more mature viewers involved.

The story unfolds something like this. A rich Southern California businessman, Mr. Crystal (veteran actor Kevin McCarthy) decides to hire an attractive French tutor named Terry (Caren Kaye) for his college-bound son Bobby (Matt Lattanzi). Terry also gets to spend the summer at the Crystal's spacious mansion.

Bobby reluctantly accepts tutoring from Terry by day and goes carousing with friends at night. They're trying to score with chicks, but always strike out. On one hilarious occasion, they go whore-chasing with Bobby passing out and his friend being trapped in a sado-masochistic funhouse. When he returns one night, he surprisingly finds Terry skinny-dipping in the pool. Little did he realize, he has the perfect woman right under his nose.

It's only a matter of time before romance blossoms. With instructions in French and passionate love-making, Bobby and Terry become increasingly fond of one another. They even share a Jacuzzi together. Their tender love scenes are never awkward and are tastefully done.

But there are forces at work that threaten the lovey-dovey couple. Terry's former boyfriend is becoming increasingly jealous of her relationship with Bobby. And then an intoxicated Mr. Crystal makes a desperate pass at Terry, but she refuses his advances. Thins end amicably with Bobby seeking a girl more his own age and Terry going off to France.

The picture easily earns its R-rating. There's plenty of nudity to be sure, but it never really gets very graphic.

Matt Lattanzi impresses as Bobby. You may remember his hot scene with Jackie Bisset in Rich and Famous. Here's got screen presence and is a natural performer. Caren Kaye looks stunning and brings unexpected depth to her role as every male student's dream tutor. She has a firm shapely body that could even arouse a statue.

My Tutor is perfect video fare. Here's a small, intimate film, that plays quite well on tape. It's also vastly superior to most so-called sexy, made-for-television movies.

If you're really hungry and crave a full course meal, My Tutor probably won't satisfy your video appetite. But if a quiche and salad will do, this film should fit the bill nicely.
