Although made in 1976, Marianne Bouquet, a French import dubbed in English and advertised as starring "Europe's Most Beautiful Women," is worth a look. Since the character of Marianne and a few of the other stars are very good-looking, maybe you should take that sex-filled European Vacation you were planning.

Michel Lemoine writes, directs and stars in this story of a "modern marriage" French-style with all its romantic complications. Michael (Lemoine) is married to young Marianne (Janine Reynauld) and they have a beautiful house. But you guesses it —something's very wrong with this union.

The story concerns the various changes and choices that a married couple must undergo. There's some torrid sex, a forceable entry scene, lesbian rendezvous, three-way sex and plenty of sexual freedom.

Marianne Bouquet makes a simple, universal statement: The Rolling Stones said it best: "you can't always get what you want." Some of the sex scenes are steamy, but the inept dubbing gets annoying. The women wear hot pants and the men don dated tunics. I keep hoping someday that I will actually enjoy a great European adult movie. Maybe I won't, because they're so... European. You've seen this movie before without the hardcore sex. At least there's nice photography, some out-of-date but soothing music and a few pretty settings.

Marianne Bouquet will certainly be enjoyed by adult film historians, but it makes its videocassette debut a few years too late. For pure sex, it's fine; but I look for more modern stuff.
