The radio station is playing that dreadful public service emergency warning that we all always ignore… “Had this been a real emergency…”  But this time folks, it’s for real!  No more Michael Jackson!  No more Boy George!  No more protests at the Eiffel Tower!  No more sex!  Shocking is the story of a handful of Parisians who spend their final hours on earth drowning in total sexual abandon in order to numb the pain of their impending deaths.

Shocking, in fairness to both global diplomacy and destruction, makes equal fun of both the Soviet Union and the United States.  But as we in America would expect, the Russians set off their button first when their leader accidentally hits it while receiving head from a lower echelon member of the party.  The president of the U.S. is “suspiciously” portrayed as a bumbling alcoholic who looks a little bit like Ronnie.

The sex in Shocking is good, but does not compare to the average American sex film. The camera is nearly always stationery and presents the sex in a documentary-like style.  This style adds realism to the premise but makes the sex scenes seem somewhat over-extended.

Finally, the cast of Shocking performs with a remarkable sense of impending tragedy that makes you really believe that these people are doomed.
