Here's yet another oddity that's popped up on home video. It's a mid-1970's drive-in flick that looks like it was made on a shoe-string budget in about a week. Still, there's some appeal for those in the audience who crave this sort of specialized fare.

Basically, the obtuse tale concerns Eddie (Tab Hunter), a blonde adonis physical education instructor from a small town in California. Eddie attracts his fair share of pretty girls and all are eager to be seduced by this seemingly slick stud. But Eddie can't get it up when he's alone with these "arousers' who've been cast under his spell, and he feels the urge to start eliminating them.

An interesting sidelight to the The Arousers is that it's a precursor to the rash of mad slasher flicks that have glutted the market these past few years. The women victims are mildly attractive, a few looking awfully young, and they're often revealed in the buff. One shower scene in particular between Eddie and a nubile nymph (Linda Leider) is highly erotic.

Unfortunately, the film crawls along at a snail's pace and is dimly photographed. The plot is incoherent at times and lacks a strong narrative focus. There's also an overall air of amateurism about the movie.

Finally, even though Hunter's quite effective and brings unexpected depth to the character, it's not enough to lift this film out of the doldrums.
