In an effort to pick love scenes over sex scenes, Sweethearts gets muddled in its own good intentions. A lot of kissing and hugging exists in the selected scenes chosen from various Essex movies, but they're not very hot. An all-sex tape for couples is a nice idea, but without a plot, you need hotter sex.

Yet it's great to see a younger Kay Parker in action, as well as lovely Jesie St. James, even though those scenes are rather mediocre. John Leslie and Shauna Grant (billed as Callie Aims) perform a perfectly sultry sex scene that's the best of the lot. The rest are mostly lukewarm with Randy West taking on the usually steamy Hyapatia Lee, Leslie making love to Shanna Evans and Richard Pacheco rolling with Samantha Fox.

Each scene, introduced by a female cupid, does have some lead up to the sex act, thereby not leaving Sweathearts in the category of "loop tape." But the production falls in between two categories: all-sex tape and couples film. And I don't know that fans of either genre will be wholly satisfied with this very good idea, that doesn't quite succeed.
