There's a scene in Keiko's Seduction that pretty much sums up the Japanese Erotica series. After a lengthy and uninspired masturbation scene (it takes place both indoors and outside) star Keiko Kazumi picks up some guy in a cemetery. A fitting place—since all the sex that takes place here is dead.

And Tokyo Miserable is aptly titled, because that's the way it makes you feel. There is no dialogue (subtitled or dubbed), and we are left to our imaginations to figure out who these people are and why they are having sex (if you can call it that!).

But maybe I'm being hard on these featurettes. After all, there must be a market for them. But if these Japanese underground tapes are ever to gain wider support, there needs to be some major improvements.  And they can  start with better production qualities: the hollow, the picture is grainy and the camera misses half the "action."

But what really needs improving here is the sex. Even the guys have a hard time getting excited about it! The scenes are mechanical and appear forced and the players show very little affection for each other. All of which translates into very little eroticism, Japanese or otherwise.
