Dear Paul:

I tried, really I did.  In the last three years, I’ve seen dozens of adult films, both hard and softcore, and have reviewed nearly as many for you. My taste for the “offbeat” and “camp” is second to none, and in my writing career I have found no assignment to be beyond me.  That is, until now.

These three soft adult films, all made in Italy and released by the same video company, are the latest examples of the genre known as “Nazi Sex Camp” films, the most famous of which is the legendary Ilsa; She-Wolf Of The S.S.

All three have the same basic plot: a WWII concentration camp where women (usually Jewish) are kept for scientific experiments and the sexual gratification of the Germans.  All three also have the same problems; cheap foreign productions with poor dubbing, little plot whatsoever and the lack of actual sex scenes.  Violence is substituted as the erotic catharsis.

So, here’s the problem Paul: I couldn’t rate these movies.  I mean, what I am rating them for?  Sex?  There’s precious little here, and even in their toned-downed form, the sex scenes are usually accompanied by bondage and humiliation (only Last Orgy gives the viewer a well-done love scene).  There’s a lot of full frontal nudity, however.  As films?  You’ve got to be kidding!  As “camp classics?”  Maybe, especially in rat-torture scenes where the filmmakers cleverly substitute gerbils and guinea pigs, or in dubbed-dialogue like “How did you find me?” and “I looked for you.”

Let’s face it; these films are beyond rating.  I know there’s an audience for these films, although I’m not sure who they are (hence, the success of Ilsa and its much better-made colleague Salon Kitty).  I tried, I really tried.

Sincerely,

Al

P.S.: Did I mention that all three films contained obligatory lesbian scenes?
