Georgina Spelvin, married for the second time to a loser that she doesn't love (John Leslie), falls in love with a married man who coerces her into leaving her husband. Her daughter (Chelsea Manchester) spends her nights fooling around with older boyfriend Ron Jeremy. During the day, she wonders whether she should let him break her cherry. Georgina's womanizing brother mentally abuses girlfriend Sharon Kane, while falling for a divorce drifter, a bitch played by Vanessa Del Rio.

This family definitely has problems, but to they seem that awful? I think that's the very point that director Kemal Horulu has made in his 1983 feature, When She Was Bad. This seductive drama, available on tape for the first time, discusses the lives of everyday people in extremely warm and realistic terms.

When She Was Bad is the kind of film we like to recommend to couples. There's a wonderful script peppered with swarmy sex scenes, filmed with surprising restraint. Long lapses without hardcore sex exist, but this allows for an interesting story to develop (that of a typical family experiencing problems within their love lives).

Georgina Spelvin, wonderful as the mother/wife/lover, shows tremendous acting ability that rarely has been exploited in her previous hardcore performances. And Chelsea Manchester excels in her favorite part, the virgin experiencing love for the first time (she even asks Ron Jeremy that age-old question that every women must ask him, "Is it in yet?"). and I love Richard Bolla's performances as the wimpy, wayward lover of Spelvin.

Since all of the sex scenes are well-done, the balance between action and story makes When She Was Bad a worthy addition to the genre of serious porn dramas.
