There are hundreds of aspiring filmmakers out there, trying to make their mark on the movie scene. They film shorts, animated movies and experimental pieces which they hope will impress somebody with the power and the money and the position to say "yes" to a feature film. The movies are made in schools or on nearby streets and the money used to createthese projects is begged for, borrowed, or, sometimes, stolen. Unfortunately, we rarely get to see these movies, as good as they sometimes are.

Thankfully, Paramount Home Video has included some works of younger filmmakers in The Hollywood Erotic Film Festival, acollection of shorts and animated pieces with sex on its mind. This is a delightful little anthology of films that has something in it that suits everyone's comic and erotic taste.

The tape also features some respected filmmakers. The first short, Striptease, is from Italy's top animator, Bruno Bozetto (Allegro Non Troppo). It takes place in a theater populated by an animated gung-ho audience who watch a live action strip show. It's a cute meditation on how affected an audience can get once their given something they truly crave.

Chuck Vincent's Movie Buffs also utilizes animation to tell its erotic tale. But this animation is different—it's stop motion stuff, ala Gumby. Movie Buffs is about two stop-motion aliens who land on earth to film a couple fornicating. The couple is played by porn veterans Veronica Hart and Ron Hudd.

A live take-off on silent films called Apres Les Soire, features a horny, cigar-smoking fellow who tries everything to get his potential lover out of a deep sleep; Lisa Lyon: Portrait of Power, is recommended only for viewers who find bulging pecs sexy.

Another film, Thin Walls is a terrific number about a bookish pharmacist who tricks his sexy next door neighbor into joining him for a date. It's funny and sexy and should have male viewers cheering.

Even the framing device used here is entertaining, as a young and handsome salesman shows a cute, struggling video store owner how to get her business back on track. The answer is to show the uptight townspeople something they're not accustomed to—what else, but erotic shorts?

The Hollywood Erotic Film Festival is a nifty package designed for video buffs who want something different in the soft-x and R-rated field. It's a mixed bag—most of it quite good—from veteran and upstart erotic filmmakers.
