The artwork of Dutch Girls depicts a pair of schoolboys surrounded by two gorgeous, scantily clad girls with windmills in the background. But this movie's accent is most definitely on the boys, rather than the girls.

Actually, Dutch Girls is a sweet coming-of-age comedy that's reminiscent of the films of Bill Forsythe (Gregory's Girl, Local Hero). It's not a bad little comedy, but va-va-voom – no way.

A prep field hockey team from England gets invited to play a tournament in Amsterdam. The team is comprised of virginal schoolboys who long for sex but they'll settle for a kiss. Their trip to Amsterdam, of course, eventually brings them to the notorious red light district of the city where they encounter all sorts of illicit signs.

The class trip occurs late in the film, so viewers seeking softcore elements before then, are in for a disappointment. And when the boys finally do get to check out the wares at the porno shops and magazine stores, little sexy stuff is featured. In fact, there is little female nudity in the film.

But there are some funny and tender moments, particularly if you like a story that will remind you of To Sir With Love meets Le Sex Shoppe. It's told in a disarming style: light, but not lively, but enjoyable.
