Can a 40-ish attorney find love, happiness, and an incredibly torrid sex life with a 14-year-old schoolgirl who originally offers to sleep with him for 300 crowns? The answer to this and other question is the basis for The Girl, an unusually erotic thriller that has lots to recommend to softcore fans, particularly if they like they're movies somewhat involving and somewhat kinky.

Franco Nero, star of countless Italian melodramas, plays the 40ish lawyer obsessed with the feisty blonde schoolgirl, played with unmitigated heat by Clare Powney. After Nero tries to lecture her on the evils of prostitution, he falls for her, and, in the face of her military-oriented father and his ever-horney wife (Bernice Stegers), the two are off to a Mediterranean island for a romantic – and, eventually, dangerous – roundelay.

The Girl works as a whodunit a trashy drama and on an erotic level. The story has scores of interesting characters, including a sleazy newspaper reporter who disrupts Nero and Powney's Nirvana-like lifestyle on the island, and the sex scenes are surprisingly frank. Director Mattson is not afraid to show us what makes Nero fall for the nymphette. And Clare Powney is a good little actress who is able to emote sassiness and naivety as the same time. Needless to say, she's more than equal to the nudity level called for her.

This is a softcore winner about the sweet and not-so-sweet mysteries of life.
