In Caballero's finest release since last year's Best Picture winner, House of Dreams, they already have one of the front-runners for Best Actress of 1992 in Ashlyn Gere. In two stylized, nasty, unbelievably erotic scenes, Gere turns up the heat like she has so many times before... yet she actually achieves new erotic heights.
Her two dream sequences, one with Peter North and the other with Tom Byron and Bobby Soxx, sandwich the basic private eye story about a missing pink cat and the porn star ("Tracey Boards", played by Melanie Moore), who allegedly kidnaps it.
Forget the mundane plot and get back to Ashlyn Gere, looking more beautiful and acting hotter than ever before. If those two sex scenes aren't enough, Ashlyn does the shower masturbation route and has a succulent, raucous pussy-eating encounter with Moore.
P.J. Sparxx does a three-way, Carolyn Monroe takes it from the rear and Tom Chapman gets it on with Trixie Tyler—all nice, sexy moments. It's just that Ashlyn overshadows them with a spine-tingling performance that rivals the great erotic performances in adult film history.
The film looks good, with comfortable settings, nice colors and competent camerawork. Though the writing could be better, Henri Pachard is very funny as the porn director, with some interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits thrown in for the novice viewer.
But Gere is the star and the reason any decent retailer would stock copies of this torrid movie. Handling her career in a careful manner and choosing such interesting star vehicles as last year's stunning Realities, Ashlyn has not allowed herself to be overexposed. Each new performance has a gem-like quality. Put The Pink Pussycat at the top of that list.
