Question: can a rich bitch Madonna lookalike from the deep South, who drives a white BMW convertible, find true happiness with a hunky, inarticulate carny worker who has an affection for dogs?

The answer is: who knows? And in the case of this super-slick trash masterpiece, who cares?

Zalman King, the screenwriter and producer of  9 1/2 Weeks, once again examines the world of kinkiness filtered through MTV-like visuals in this outrageously overwrought romance.

Soap opera fave Sherilyn Finn, sporting blonde hair, dark eyebrows and poutyembarrassing lips, a la Madonna, plays the Southern belle about to be married to wimpy Martin Hewitt (Endless Love). Her life is disrupted when grungy, muscular carnival worker Richard Tyson (Three O'Clock High) enters her life. He shows her what passion and affection and orgasms are all about. She realizes her fiance can't hold a candle to the carny's beef bravado.

Two Moon Junction -- great title, huh? -- is a dumb delight throughout. There's amazingly insipid dialogue, absurd symbolism and embarrasing supporting performances by previous Oscar winners Burl Ives and Louise Fletcher. Yet all this adds to the entertainment the film offers.

Of course, the sex scenes help, too. Finn appears constantly in a state of disrobe. Since this takes place in the hot South, she has to shower a lot right? You bet! Her tussles with Tyson are a treat, too, going as far as the MPAA would allow an R-rated movie to go. Even Kristy McNichol -- surprise! -- gets into the act, playing a bisexual truck-driver with affections for Finn.

A must-see for fans of romance, raunch or the ridiculous.
