Reviews

There were two things I was apprehensive about with this film. One was whether David (An Officer and a Gentleman) Keith’s directing style was going somewhere in the same direction as his grooming habits; and whether ex-playmate Kathy Shower was going to make amends for the simply awful Frankenstein General Hospital and at least bare it in this feature.

What a pleasant surprise on both counts. Keith fashions a grizzly and exciting jungle tale – a sparkling khaki contemporary to say, King Soloman’s Mines or Raider’s of the Lost Ark.

Keith’s a stubbled, drunk tank cigar chewing safari guide named Buck Malone who’s assigned to squire Yuppie Shower and her twit husband, Brant Von Hoffmann in search of an off the beaten path honeymoon. They find one alright – as the bill of fare on a headhunters’ menu. Yipes, these people eaters are high quotient loonies if ever there were ones.

Von Hoffmann’s head gets detached. Shower gets (anally suggestive deflowered – after a beautifully scoped nude bathing scene – by the head cannibal. And Keith plays it up with just the right elements of eccentric braggadocio and grime.

If you’ve seen one African adventure, you can generally write the book on the rest. But here, Shower’s beauty is an exciting and captivating addition. And Keith forsakes his Michael J. Pollard acting style long enough to get us really caught up in this yarn.
