Judging by the names of the director and the cast credits at the end, the viewer can safely assume that his leg is being pulled—big time. Nonetheless, don't be fooled by the nonsense. How Many Times is a superbly written film—at least, for this genre.

It opens with a couple, Rick and Angela, laying naked in bed in the throes of post-coital embrace. Rick lights a cigarette film noir-style and tells the audience in an almost travel-weary voiceover how he and Angela have traded, coupled and orgied with whomever they pleased. However, they're mobile free-wheeling lifestyles need an oil change and a lube.

Angela wants to "refine" her tastes in sexual pleasure, or so we're told. Her goal in life is to seduce, photograph and blackmail other victims, making them her slaves. In other words, Angela wants to become the federal government.

With the help of Tina, a kinky friend, and Felix a photographer, Rick begins to work out his portion of the master plan. During an intimate gathering in which porno movies serve as some inspiration (and with the help of some grass), Rick brings in a new girl and engages in a threesome with Tina. The threesome becomes a foursome when Felix joins in. Angela relates her story. She picks up two guys, strips for them and has Felix lens the proceedings.

With these minor successes under their belts, Rick and Angela are inspired to more in-depth perversions. Angela's fantasy is to seduce a garage mechanic who has made clumsy passes at her in the past. Angela refers to him as "the pigman". (Look out, I believe there's a Seinfeld episode in the works.)

The pigman (a casual observer might make a good case for this being a young Michael Ironside) and his wife take up the invitation to frolic. What ensues might be a scene best described as a writhing, Dante-esque, bodies-in-hell moment.

Afterwards, Rick and Angela bring their victims over for cookies and milk and show them the surreptitious sex tapes. Watch the expressions on everyone, what fun.

Great visual poetry and a classic.
