Kate Frost has essayed fine supporting roles in dozens of features, including a couple of transsexual tapes, usually with temperature-raising consequences, so it's a pleasure to see her finally get starring roles in movies with high production values that give her a chance to show her thespian talents.

Kate's a new student at the Branford Art Institute, and the first person she runs into is Julian, who shows her the way to Dean Sondra Hall's office... and later, when he doesn't know she's looking, he shows how hot he can get Hall during a long reverse cowgirl ride and doggie pounding on the couch.

Kate's next stop is the terrace, where a number of students seem deeply involved in their sketching, including Steven St. Croix... so imagine Frost's surprise when she walks into her next class and finds St. Croix teaching it. The students there are supposed to see and paint the passion inherent in models Ashley and Angel Long... and it doesn't take Frost long to imagine the lanky blondes in a threeway with St. Croix that includes horsie and reverse cowgirl with both gals.

In fact, Frost's imagination seems to have no end, as she fantasizes about a painting coming to life in yet another threesome. This time it's Joelean pleasuring Steve Hatcher in doggie position, and Joey Ray missionarily as he licks her toes.

But what would sex be like with her artistic idol, Kate wonders... and sure enough, in less time than it takes to read it, she's in front of the fireplace with St. Croix. Things take a turn for the weirder, as it turns out that Kate may have imagined St. Croix's existence from the beginning... but Julian's real enough, and the pair get into a hot lick session on a staircase, leading to horsie, reverse cowgirl, and a cumshot to her tits.

The pacing of The Virgin Canvas is sedate, but that just gives the viewer time to enjoy both the excellent art direction and music, and the nom-worthy cinematography, that last courtesy of Philip O'Toole.
