Synopsis

Usual high-gloss high-heat Private vid. Stock accordingly.

Reviews

A well-done story, hot sex and eye-catching packaging make for something beyond the amusement of just bread and circuses.

Clad with the gloss and finish of a Roman emperors' praetorian guard, Private's Gladiator impresses with a fold-out box with an accompanying booklet. But it's not just all flash — the sex, as with most of Private's offerings is scalding, with debauchery worthy of the Empire.

Gladiator, one of Private's most lavish pieces yet, takes cues from the mainstream production of the same name, with Frank Gun as the corrupt emperor and Toni Ribas as the general-turned-prisoner. Orgies take up two of the disc's six sex scenes, and high production values abound throughout the video (though the dubbing is sometimes awkward).

The feature and its accompanying extra material (all of which take up two discs) are beautifully transferred. Of equal note are the extras, with a making-of featurette (Making of: The Empire of the Senses) that's as well done as the feature. Other supplementary titles on the extras disc rival the offerings on mainstream special editions, including an interview with Antonio Adamo, story-boards and set design sketches.

Stock for the usual fans of Private's fare and for those who might be drawn by the packaging of the set. Pre-nom for Best Disc, Best Menu, Best DVD Extras and Best DVD Packaging.

Frank Gun is the corrupt emperor and Toni Ribas the general turned prisoner turned gladiator in this video set in ancient Rome, where celebratory post-victory orgies are the order of the day. Six sex scenes, including two multi-participant orgies, all with anal - and several d.p.s as well - before the tape ends with an open-ended vow by the gladiator that sounds like there's more to come.

Lushly detailed sets and appropriately-rustic outdoor locations make visual production values high, matched by the audio in all aspects except dubbing, as if that matters.
