Billing this strange trip into a not-too-far-off-future Big Apple "A Psychepolitical Porn Meditation," writer/director/editor/scorer Joe Gallant unfurls something akin to a cross-pollination of the works of David Lynch, Darren Aronofsky and Jim Powers.

The storyline - if you can call it that - basically revolves around a sexual underground in the "Former United States of America" which produces porn meant to counteract that being disseminated by the Orwellian corporate government. The latter, you see, is loaded with subliminal advertising that at once funds the bureaucracy and allows it to control the populace.

Sure, one would expect nothing less obtuse and antiestablishment from Gallant, the most beatnik of porn directors there is. But somehow this movie gels in a way his previous ones (or at least those this reviewer has seen) haven't. It's a compelling concept, and one with a fresh skew on the terrifying current state of the world.

What's more, it's got some pretty hot sex in it, including Performer of the Year nominee Kimberly Kane's very first anal scene, as well as one between Veronica Jett and Tommy Pistol that just wails. Jett also serves as one quarter of a great fourway in the Mojave Desert, the other three quarters consisting of Trina Michaels, Brian Surewood and Dino Bravo.

Not everybody digs porn they can think to, we know, but for those who do, it doesn't get much more stimulating (mentally and physically, of course) than this.

Pre-noms: Best Videography (Gallant), Best Editing (Gallant), Best Music (Gallant), Best Anal Scene (Jett & Pistol), Best Group Scene (Jett, Michaels, Surewood & Bravo), Best Actress (Kane), Best Supporting Actor (Surewood), Best Director - Video (Gallant), Best Video Feature.

Retailing: Gallant enthusiasts and/or those jonesing to see Kane do anal.
