Is this the question we are soon to ask in Ohio? As you read this, we are dangerously close to the deadline for signatures to challenge the anti-industry law passed in Ohio. SB16,
the Ohio bill that was signed into law earlier this year, puts severely
restrictive regulations on dancers in clubs and closes ALL-that's right
ALL-adult businesses at midnight.
Citizens
for Community Values (CCV) is responsible for introducing the bill into
the Ohio legislature and bullying legislators, as well as the Governor,
into supporting this destructive bill. CCV plans to spread the success they have in Ohio to other states. CCV,
whose strategic plan aims to dismantle the adult industry by dividing
and conquering, is counting on our industry's lack of organizing
ability, greed and pettiness to flame their success. BACE (Buckeye Association of Club Executives) has done a stellar job of organizing. They
have worked in coalition with FSC, Dancers for Democracy, Citizens for
Community Standards and other organizations to mobilize a true
grassroots base. They have educated the people in their
state about how Ohio's State government is overreaching its authority
and diminishing the personal freedoms of the citizens of Ohio. Finally
they have effectively developed a relationship and understanding with
the media outlets of Ohio garnering, nearly unanimous opposition to
this destructive law and its backers from Ohio's media.
BACE has clearly demonstrated that the industry is capable of organizing. Special
thanks to those folks at BACE-especially those of you who are
volunteering your time--who are spending every waking second trying to
raise money for this effort. It
is easy to look at this issue and say, "This is Ohio, what does that
have to do with me?" or "This is about Dance Clubs-what have they done
for us?" This is what CCV is counting on. Remember, ALL adult businesses close at midnight. Remember, CCV plans to build on this success to spread this type of legislation to other states. Remember, CCV set as a priority the dismantling of the adult entertainment industry. If we don't win this one, it will cost all of us a great deal more in the not-too-distant future.
Now
is the time for us as an industry to provide the critical support
required in the last stages of this effort. This campaign needs
additional funds to shore up the final signature gathering and support
the two month campaign to remove this destructive law from the books. FSC has worked with BACE and has made financial contributions - through ACDC funds. I have personally made a financial contribution to the effort. Please give what you can and then just a little more. If you have already donated, please consider an addition gift.
Has CCV underestimated our industry? I think so-let's prove them wrong and defeat this law in Ohio-for the people of Ohio and for us all. Time is of the essence, please give now. To make a contribution contact Jim Everett at - (614)203-3770.
