REYKJAVIK, Iceland - The number of convictions for the possession of pornography in Iceland has increased considerably in the past decade, according to a report published in
Iceland Review.
Although all forms of pornography are illegal in Iceland, convictions for possession typically involve possession of child pornography. The number of convictions, though, for 2007 were 10 and there were 13 in 2006.
According to criminologist Helgi Gunnlaugsson, that is a major increase from 1993, when there were no convictions.
Gunnlaugsson points to easier access to pornography - particularly through the Internet - as one reason for the increase in convictions.
