The Five Do's and Don't's of Porn: Part 1

I was lucky enough to have advice and common sense to know what I should and should not do getting into the industry. Not everyone is so lucky, so here I am giving my two cents on what I feel is important to know. Perhaps I can help shine some light for new people that are afraid to ask questions.

Let's start off with the things a new aspiring porn star should not do.

1) Don't be afraid to ask questions and know that you have choices. You can choose whether or not to have an agent or work independently. I myself chose to have an agent because it's, in my opinion, safer and a sure way to get constant work. Trying to do it on your own can be way too difficult if you don't know the right people and you run the risk of being taken advantage of. Don't be that girl that does a scene with some fat gross pig, only to find out that there wasn't even film in the camera.

You can't be a push over and have to know how to market yourself. Agents know everyone and do all the talking. All you have to do is show up on time, have a good attitude and do your job.

However, be careful when choosing your agent. They are there to get you the work you want to do and not pressure you into other things. They should be willing to listen to you and respect your boundaries. If you say no to something then they shouldn't get pissed and curse you for not wanting to. Watch out for the one's that try to manipulate you into doing anal right out of the gate if you don't want to. They will tell you all the typical "more money" bullshit in an attempt to sway you.  Money will always be the point of persuasion. You are your own boss and have every right to say what you will and will not do. You should never compromise this just because someone else says you should.

It's important to be strong enough to set your own boundaries. If you don't want to do anal, then don't. Your agent is not there to boss you around. They are simply there to help get you the work that you want to do. Remember, you pay them for their help. You don't pay them to make you blow the camera guy after a 12 guy gang bang just because the camera guys thinks you look real sexy. That would just be stupid. You don't have to blow anyone you don't want to.

My favorites are those slimy bastards that say you have to blow them after your scene and that your agent said it was ok. I get in bitch mode and say "hell no." If you do want to then great, just make sure to clear it with your agent and check their tests. Don't be afraid to say no. If you don't like something simply voice your opinion and stick to your guns. In the end, you will be more respected for knowing what you want and sticking to that.
If you're not sure about an agent, find other people they represent and get their opinion on it. If you don't know anyone then meet with the agent and try to be the best judge of character you can. I also suggest you meet with more then one agent so you can be sure about who you want to be with. Just remember that you have choices.

2) Don't let other people influence you. To me, there is nothing more sad then an 18 year old girl doing porn for a year and then getting breast implants at some chop shop and numerous other unnecessary surgeries or procedures, just to please others. This is an industry where your body is a job and it's easy to fall victim to other outside opinions. Insecurity is an everyday battle for some and everyone can be vulnerable to public scrutiny. I have never considered myself to be an insecure person but after being in this industry for a short time I find myself having moments where I am questioning things about my body that I never would have before. I simply remind myself that I am a beautiful person inside and out. As long as I'm happy when I see my reflection that's all I care about.

Although I am not one for plastic surgery I am all for girls that get it for the right reasons. You should only get it for yourself and not to fit a mold that others want you in. I don't have big boobs and blonde hair and I'm ok with that. Not everyone likes the same thing. Keep in mind that you should never change your body, as well as any other aspect of your life, for superficial reasons. Money, in my opinion, is not a good excuse to alter your body in such an extreme way.

I was a dancer for years watching big tit'd girls clean up by doing nothing more then jiggling those fake masses in front of a guys face. I never made as much as them I'm sure, but I made enough for me and was happy with who I was. The thought never crossed my mind to change for a few extra bucks.  You need to be happy with yourself, and at the end of the day, that's all that should matter.

Another strong influence is drug use among people in the industry. Not everyone is a cracked out junky whore. Although I am certain, as with any job, that there are plenty. You should be strong enough to realize you don't have to participate in drug use if you don't want to. There will be those parties where everyone is snorting coke and some douche bag is telling you to party with them and that they'll get you tons of work. Fuck them and fuck that. Crack is whack and don't feed into the bullshit.

3) Don't let the business go to your head overnight. There is nothing worse then having to deal with a pre-Madonna chick that thinks her shit's better than everyone else's. Trust me, I've seen it. I've been on great sets with a positive vibe and then some bitch comes squeezing her giant head through the door throwing everything off. I have never felt more uncomfortable.

I've never been a kiss ass and never will be. I'm not going to say how much I love someone or how great they are just because they are better known publicly then me; especially if I've never met them. I don't care who you are, if you walk through a door barking out orders sitting on your high horse expecting every one to bow then you can eat shit. We are all in this to make a lot of money and all deserve the same respect. If you're the best cock sucker in the world then great, but the last thing directors, crew and other talent want to deal with is a stuck up self centered bitch. Keep in mind that we all fuck for a living. That means that whether you've done 1 scene or 2,000 you still fuck for money and are no better than any other whore. So try to keep your head deflated and be normal like everyone else.

4) Don't be late all the time. It's so fucking annoying when you have to sit on set all day because one douche bag can't get their shit together. No one is perfect and shit does happen, but the repeat offenders have no excuse. When you're late you hold up the entire production and throw the whole day off. That pisses everyone off and when you do show up you are the asshole for the day.

Again, this is a job so be responsible enough to be where you are supposed to be. And always call if you are going to be late or a no show. It's like any 9-5 job. People like to know what the hell is going on. I am amazed by how many people don't think of the industry as a job and just come and go to scenes as they please. It's not only irresponsible but it's disrespectful to everyone you inconvenience

5) Don't mix business with pleasure. By this I mean don't get personally involved with partners you've worked with and let it affect your work. Unfortunately, this industry is a cesspool of gossip and the last thing you want is to be the center of it. Worst of all, depending on who you fuck and piss off, it can be very damaging.

I'd like to think most people would be mature enough to not mix the two but some are not. I realize it can be very difficult to be with different partners and not get any emotional satisfaction. That's when you get a puppy or an outside partner (I opted for the puppy). Of course, there are always those few who find love and happiness in the industry, but it's rare. Don't come into the industry expecting to find love and romance.

Be professional and when the scene comes to an end and your partner asks for your number do what I do…tell them to myspace you. If you don't have myspace say it anyways. It's more subtle then saying "go fuck yourself."

This can also go the other way and industry people will bring their "civilian" lover to set with them. I am all about open relationships but I highly doubt lawyers and doctor's bring their girlfriends or boyfriends to the job with them. "Hey honey check out this guy's spleen" or "defendant, doesn't my wife's ass look great?" It's work, not a free for all. I have not yet had the luxury of doing a scene with someone while their significant other waited in the other room, but I can only imagine that it would be a little awkward and uncomfortable not just for me but for everyone on set.

The bottom line is to be as drama free as possible, don't shit where you sleep and for Christ's sake, leave that special someone at home.
