Mixed-martial-arts fighter turned porn actor, Dick Delaware, (a.k.a. Aaron Brink) made it to the semifinals in the pro-am segment of Volcom's Starfish Surf Series, held this past Saturday at the Newport River jetty.
The occasion marked Delaware's first competitive surfing experience since he was a Huntington Beach high school freshman in 1989. "I've been staying with [pro surfer] Pat Maus," he explained. "He's trying to get on the ASP World Tour, and this was one of several events he's doing to train for that contest. I decided to enter in the pro-am competition. My stamina is really good because I've been training for fights. It's always good to keep a competitive edge."
Delaware's competitive edge paid off as he advanced to the quarterfinals, coming in from the outside to defeat three pro surfers. He placed third in the quarters, and fourth in the semis – "one wave and one half-point away from making it to the finals," he said.
Meanwhile, Delaware told AVN.com that he is back to performing in porn – but only with his new bride, starlet Cassandra Cruz. "We've shot a couple of times for DVSX and Cherry Boxxx ," he said. "We'll be shooting for Hustler with Rick Davis this week. I have retired from porn other than that. I don't need the money any more since I signed with New Era as a fighter."
Delaware has been a professional fighter for parts of the past nine years, competing in such A-level promotions as the UFC, K-1, 2 Hot 2 Handle, WEC, as well as King of the Cage and Rage in the Cage. He has over 40 pro fights on his resume.
