‘Bear’ Magazine Now at Borders and Bookworld

LAS VEGASBeginning in October, Bear magazine will be available at two national bookstore chains, Borders and Bookworld, publisher Bear Omnimedia announced Thursday. The first issue to appear on sophisticate shelves at the stores will be number 69, which features Zeb Atlas on the cover.

“When we revived and redesigned Bear last year, we knew it was a gamble, especially with the sudden downturn of the economic market,” said Editor in Chief Steven Wolfe. “But despite the economy and various naysayers, Bear’s growth has been unstoppable in an evolving industry.

“I’m also rather pleased that they’ve put us in the men’s sophisticate category, alongside the giant publication Playboy,” he added. “It’s a great acknowledgement and entrance into the mainstream.”

When Bear magazine launched in 1987, it put a name to a growing gay community that previously had gone unnoticed: unapologetically hyper-masculine gay males. After a dramatic metamorphosis in 2008, Bear returned with a fresh look and a new direction to reflect the many levels of an emerging contemporary, mature, masculine, upscale market. The result is a crisp, modern design with upbeat editorial content featuring erotic photography and provocative fiction, blended with humor and informative articles that are of interest to both the bear market niche and the gay mainstream.
