NY Times Profiles Rod Fontana

NEW YORK - Adult performer/director Rod Fontana's announcement in January that he planned to leave the industry and seek priesthood in the Episcopal Church caught the attention of the New York Times, which ran a profile Sunday about him and the radical about-face he's taken in life.

Now using his real name, Ronald Boyer, the 54-year-old star of over 800 adult movies — and nominee for AVN's Best Supporting Actor – Film and Best Supporting Actor – Video honors in 2004 — says he has nothing against porn, but grew to no longer enjoy it, and to feel his impulses redirected toward this spiritual calling.

"I love sex. I love performing. I love the combination of the two," the Times quoted Boyer. "I could go back and do it again, but I don't think I would. I had a passion for that. I put it there. Now I've channeled my passion to a different place."

The story also noted that Boyer's journey toward this turn was precipitated by the near death of his child with wife Liza Harper, also a retired performer. Boyer has begun, while training to be consecrated as a priest, to build a ministry for those in the sex industry.
