LOS ANGELES—The 28th edition of Adultcon took place over the weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with dozens of adult performers, burlesque dancers, pin-up models and webcam girls doing their darnedest to pull fans of adult content away from their computers and smartphones and meet real-live performers.

AVN attended the convention on Saturday, and when we left at about 6 p.m., the exhibit hall floor was beginning to fill up with fans, eager to see the dozens of lovely performers of all sorts dressed in skimpy costumes and only too willing to pose for selfies ($5 seemed to be the going rate; exactly the value of the chip that attendees were given upon receiving their entry wristbands) as well as to sell glamour photos and DVDs.

Another sign of the changing nature of adult entertainment was that the single largest booth—bigger than any four other booths (at least!) combined—was the one belonging to MyFreeCams, the presenting sponsor which occupied the entire front corner of the show floor in West Hall B, lighting up the convention center with its spacious white and green booth for a day full of live camming with dozens of models from all over the country. At any moment, at least six camgals were chatting up fans and giving out branded keychains, bottle openers, mini-vibes, shopping bags and the like. Among the models spotted drawing a crowd on Saturday afternoon were the excitable SweetieMarie, the sexy RaeRiley and the notorious HackerGirl, who stood out with her bright red hair and blue Star Trek cosplay outfit. The MFC TV crew also made the trip to LA to capture all the behind-the-scenes hijinks.

Also, before the show opened, on Thursday night, as is tradition for MFC at various shows around the world, dozens of models got together for networking and cocktails at the Model Meet-Up in Los Angeles.

And MFC were hardly the only cam-based exhibitor. Another booth featured video/cam performers Becky LeSabre, Kaia Malone, Nora Nova, Samantha Grace, Layla Reynolds, Callie Klein, and Lindsey Banks, all of whom can be found giving shows on Flirt4Free. Yet another decent-sized booth was staffed by some of the gals from cam site PornstarPlatinum.com, with Ava Devine, Alura Jenson, Alix Lovell, Courtney Taylor, Eva Notty, Raven Bay and Yuri Love taking shifts throughout the afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, right next to the Flirt4Free gals, Luscious Lopez was holding down the fort at the KraveGirls.com booth.

On the video side of things, publicist Erika Icon brought some of her clients to the show, setting Raven Hart, Savana Styles, Karen Fisher and Jenevieve Hexxx up in a booth of their own, while a short distance away, another client, Japanese cutie Marica Hase, got a corner booth all to herself, where she sold photos and DVDs, and held a live raffle to raise money for the Animal Rescue Alliance. A $1 donation got the fan a free cupcake, which were homemade by her partner Chris Cock’s brother who recently started a cupcake baking business. A $5 donation got a 5x7 photo of the star plus a cupcake, while other raffle prizes included a 20-minute Skype show, Marica’s Vibrating Pussy toy, DVDs, panties and 8x10s.

Just opposite MyFreeCams was a solo booth devoted to former adult performer Aspen Edwards, and her big news was that she's planning to return to making features sometime in the near future.

"I did some several years ago, so it's been a while, and half of what I've done, you can't find anymore, which is good," Aspen chuckled. "The guy over there selling VHS tapes might have one. Hopefully in the next couple of months, I'll be on set, but right now, I don't have an agent; I'm completely independent; I work for myself."

And what has she been doing in the meantime? "I've been doing a lot of photo shoots and some private collection video shoots, but for the most part, it's been a lot of pin-up and fetish modeling, and when I can, in my free time, I get on the webcam and participate with MyFreeCams and Chaturbate."

Producers who'd like to offer Aspen feature work can find her on Twitter @theaspenedwards.

And speaking of people who haven't been around for a while, what about the "Latin Queen of Erotica," Alicia Rio? Imagine our surprise when we noticed her booth in the row furthest from the entrance, since the petite Latina hasn't made a movie since 1998—so we had to ask, what is she doing here?

"What I'm doing now is staying out of trouble," she answered. "I'm still tanning, working out and looking good for my fans." (Those would be the fans who follow her on Twitter @latinqueen69xxx.)

But what is she doing here? "Oh, I sell Avon, and it's a great company to work for. I love their perfumes and makeup. I'm wearing their Passion fragrance right now! I'm selling Avon products to all my fans who stop by, and they can buy them from me on Twitter, too."

Adultcon also attracted a few newcomers to the adult scene, and perhaps one of the more unusual ones was Amputee Brittney, whose website assures, "Having a disability doesn't mean you can't be beautiful," and who had a booth near the front of the hall.

"I have a porn website," the tiny blonde told us, "and I have tons of videos of me nude and photos of me on there nude. I'm hoping to become more public, get more attention and just explode out there so hopefully, I'll be in more magazines and in time hopefully maybe Playboy or Penthouse or Hustler."

And does she plan to ease her way into video production by way of webcamming? "Not at this time," she said. "I've only been on toe web for three years and I'm still trying to figure everything out. This is my first event, so I'm trying to look into it, and hopefully, in time, I can do cam as well."

Any of those gals looking for work would have been able to wander over to the booths of the three talent agencies that exhibited at the show. We saw booths for Ideal Image Models and 101 Modeling near the front of the hall, and towards the back was Coxxx Models, a four-year-old agency whose clients are into everything from webcamming to feature dancing to video production—and some even have their own production companies, puttign out DVDs and selling clips on Clips4Sale and ManyVids.

"The one advantage we have over other agencies is, we charge no booking fees," said owner Charlie Comet. "So if you want to book a model, there is no booking fee whatsoever."

Among the Coxxx Models expected to be at the show were Sailor Luna, Savannah Fox, Kimberlee Cline, Luna Leve, Whitney Morgan and Sally D'Angelo.

But while there were plenty of novelty sellers at the show, not to mention three or four booths selling cannabis edibles, surprisingly, there weren't many DVD vendors there. In fact, the only one with a decent-sized selection was Erotique Entertainment's Eric John.

"I attend all the Adultcons because I only live six blocks from here," John noted. "Since 2004, I've been in so many things, and every time I'm in stuff, I'm old school and I get one copy to just have, so recently, I just started getting extra copies and having them around, and then whenever these shows come up, I just bring them out."

John also mentioned his own cam work, which takes place frequently on ErotiqueTVLive.com.

"That's been going on since 2010, our premium live show. I do my own hardcore show weekly, but I have live stuff on the site continuously because I'm part of Vicky Vette's network, so I get stuff from there as well. I've also been doing a lot more collaborative projects with girls, and while I do a minimum of one show weekly, if there's people in town like there happened to be in the last week, I do more, I had like four shows on the site this past week.

"We're really mainly a high-end live boy-girl show," he added. "In terms of like straight-ahead, passionate connection, our philosophy has always been, we don't try to shoot every girl the same, so if the girl is very passionate, the show is more sensual, or if she's into the rough stuff, it's more rough. So many companies just shoot the same scene pretty much every time; what I want is to show what it would be like for me to be with that woman and what's different about that, so we really try to go for that. We ask her what she wants to see in the show, so it's very feministic and orgasm-centric."

In another corner of the show floor was a row of burlesque dancers, including Lilac Saint Clair, Nadia Lotte, Anita Kristal, Sasha Snow, Dahlia DeLust and (if you can believe it) Lily Von Schtupp. ("It's my legal name," she assured. "I've used it for my radio show which I had for ten years.") Burlesque fans can see most of them as part of the Peepshow Menagerie, a burlesque talent agency "available for booking private events, parties, film and television" at [email protected].

But it was something that Lilac Saint Clair was selling that caught our eye: Sexy 3D photos of herself in various poses—something no one else at the convention had.

"This gentleman that I work with, his name is Joel; he got into doing 3D about six months ago," Lilac explained. "He was always interested in it, but about six to eight months ago, he got really hardcore involved in it, rigging up cameras and always coming up with new ways to push the artform forward, so as he was showing me what he had done, I just knew that this was a perfect coupling with burlesque. The movements, the costumes, the feathers, the ruffles, the women's derrieres and their beautiful bosoms coming at you in 3D, it's just beautiful. So I knew this was a perfect combination, and it's also perfect because virtual reality is so big nowadays, and it's a way of bringing that into the past with an old-school artform."

Lilac spends her days as a package designer at CalExotics, saving some of her energy for burlesque dancing during the evenings—but she's now got great plans for herself and 3D.

"There's a lot of things I know that some of us in the industry want to do, maybe calendars or books, things like that, because 3D is the perfect marriage of burlesque, pin-up and 3D. It's a great medium," she gushed. "Every time you can shoot 3D with a subject, that really pushes it that extra mile and makes it special, and that's really a good thing."

Lilac herself will be appearing in the "Sintendo" live burlesque show at Fais Do Do, 5253 W. Adams Blvd. in L.A. on Friday, October 6. Click here for more info.
