West Memphis Drafts Anti-Adult Ordinance

Following a high-profile crackdown on Memphis strip clubs, the city council of West Memphis, Arkansas has drafted an ordinance restricting adult businesses.

According to WREG-TV, West Memphis council members are concerned that Memphis strip club owners will migrate across the river and into their domain. The 30-page ordinance defines and regulates sexually-oriented businesses, prohibiting activities such as lap-dancing and imposing a 12 a.m. curfew.

"We want to keep this a really good place to locate, live, and do business," West Memphis council member Ramona Taylor told WREG. "The better job we do at providing sound regulation, then the more likely a business establishment will be beneficial and not detrimental."
