Vermont City Won’t Renew Strip Club License

A strip club patron who violated a provision by allegedly touching a dancer has set a chain of events in motion that may see the City Council refusing to renew the club’s license. The club, called Planet Rock, operated under a provision requiring entertainers to keep at least three feet away from customers.

According to a recently published report, the license for nude dancers at the club, issued annually, is to expire Sunday. The club's liquor license would not be affected.

Last July, a Washington County liquor inspector saw a customer put his head between a dancer's breasts, Mayor Thomas Lauzon told the Rutland Herald.

But Daniel Garr Sr., head of the corporation that owns the club, told reporters that the establishment had always complied with its conditions.

"We don't know what one person's hidden agenda may be, but of course we do understand there may be some other hidden interests here," Garr told the Rutland Herald. "We will not sit quietly and let anyone violate our civil rights. This type of entertainment is clearly protected by the First Amendment."

Lauzon told the publication that he was troubled by Garr's unwillingness to take responsibility for the violation.
