VSDA 2004 Day 2: Porn's Packin' 'Em In

After a night partying with Playboy and heading over to the Starsky & Hutch party at Studio 54 where Carmen Electra and Snoop Dogg were ogled by fans, even porn stars and fans, the business sessions and seminars downstairs were packed as the adult wing on the 28th floor of the South Tower of the Venetian Hotel was abuzz with activity. Traffic was brisk and heavy as today seemed to be a 100% improvement from the day before, at moments jamming the aisles as girls flirted with buyers and doors opened and closed with the regularity of a French farce or a Neil Simon play.

Wicked Pictures and Zero Tolerance were still the first stop for most. Then it was next stop for Adam & Even Productions where Carmen Luvana warmly greeted video retailers, eager to have her autograph one of her latest movies while a TV screen played opposite, showcasing the hot Latina at her best.

Across the hall, Dan Motola from Pleasure Productions was the host, introducing himself to one and all, remarking, "It's a pleasure to meet you," or "It's a pleasure doing business with you," as customers left after meeting the gorgeous Karina. Now living in Atlanta, Karina still finds time to fly out west when she gets the porn itch, which apparently hasn't lessened. As photographers snapped her picture, she practically came every time. "Oooh, she would moan, "I get really turned on when the camera is on me. I love being an exhibitionist."

Private USA featured Avy Scott and Flick Shagwell. The girls enjoyed kissing, cooing and taking any and every opportunity to engage the customers with sparkling banter, despite Avy's long flight from Florida, to meet the attendees.

"I guess I'm feeling bitchy today," Avy grumped as Flick would move closer and cuddle her a bit, while guys lined up to see what the girls would do next as Private's new release from AVN Award winning director Axel Braun's new release, Cadillac Highway, rolled out on a TV near the girls. "This is getting me hot," Flick purred in that purrfectly sexy English accent. Business was brisk as the girls kept the traffic flow moving in and out.

AnnMarie and Kelli Erikson moved about the Metro Interactive suite, taking dealers out to the front of the adult wing of the 28th floor of the Venetian, where a large DVD vending machine featuring Metro product wowed the attendees entering for the first time. The girls would then lead them back to the suite where sales people kept the pen on paper while the girls found ways to undress ever so slightly to keep their, uh, interest up.

"I love to tease," AnnMarie would offer, pulling back her top and asking, "I need some sun, don't you think?"

Of course, we couldn't quite tell with all her clothes on, but soon enough Kelli would come over and help us by doing a comparative skin test. It proved to be one of the more skin-tillating moments of the morning.

Nectar Entertainment was the hot spot on 28 and director Marty Zion welcomed guests and the feng shui vibe of their suite kept 'em coming and once inside, kept 'em there. A jumbo screen TV played some of Nectar's best and the party vibe resembled a cool lounge hang.

Zion was ebullient about their response, "Every range of buyer is here. Foreign, cable, mass market and independent stores and initially they come into the suite with a reaction of disbelief and approach to the overall marketing from the Point of Purchase materials to the end product is proving guaranteed sales and re-orders and we're also hearing there's more turns on the rentals of our product then many of the manufacturers."

Sean Logan, one of the company owners, chimed in, "Nectar has been in business only nine months and the commitment to quality and customer service is paying off here. Our product is about intimacy and sensuality and beauty and the buyers all comment how it comes across in every aspect of our brand and that's how you build brand equity."

Justin Brazilia, Sean's cousin and partner in the company added, "this show puts us on the map and consumers are really going to start picking up on us from all the business we've done."

Jill Kelly Productions was quiet, busy and without a star, though customers were on hand to look at the great packaging and sticking around once they saw the movies playing on the TV in the suite. Bacchus Releasing/Filmco Productions, offering an array of everything adult, kept 'em comin' and orderin' thanks to Stevie B., one of the coolest and slickest guys on the floor. His winning personality proved as good as a porn star, keeping the jokes flowing with an easy patter that turned into plenty of orders.

Dan Quinn, owner of Smash Pictures/Horizon Media Group, was all smiles at the flow of traffic, beaming, "We're excited and it's proving that our flexibility and willingness to change with each shift in the market and above all, being passionate about our business and of course, having the product, staff and now with our upcoming release, Bishop's Blind Sex Date, we're keeping ahead of the curve and most of all the product is hot, fresh and packed with good looking girls."

Stuart Wall, the new general manager for Smash, enjoyed having fresh product from a marquee name like Bishop, from the Showtime Adult Reality Series, "Family 'B'isness", just one of the new offerings from Smash. The room kept a party atmosphere going and the infectious nature of Quinn and his salespeople proved the place to be once you settled into a drink and some conversation with the fun crowd.

Jerry from Exquisite Pleasures/Max Hardcore enjoyed teasing the buyers with a couple of local strippers that strutted their stuff as Max Hardcore eyed them, commenting, "These girls look like they're down with the program. We might be able to do some serious recruiting here today." Jerry's great smile and product knowledge proved a lesson in Porn 101 for many of the attendees, proving that knowledge and some nookie and the Hardcore celebrity vibe was an irresistible and moneymaking proposition.

Sin City was out in full force with David Sturman barking customers into his suite with one of the most hilarious routines one is likely to see from this generally genial CEO. Sturman's circus of carnality was capped off in style by Aurora Snow and Hannah Harper helping out, slithering across the furniture, fixing up clients with autographed product and preening prettily as Sin City publicist and Webmaster D-Cypher kept his gorgeous girlfriend and sometime performer Justine in the public eye, making a perfect trio of tasty female sensuality that kept buyers buying and Sturman schpritzing in the doorway. It was a lewd laugh riot that will be long remembered.

At the far end of the hallway, customers caught Sunset Thomas looking fabulous and horny as Janine, decked out in denim, strutted around barefoot and occasionally flopping on the king size bed, making this suite look more like a porn version of "Cribs." She's looking better than ever, showing off her new tattoos and talking sexy about working with men on her comeback trail.

"I've always loved men, loved the sex and now I get the best of both words on camera. I have only just begun to let the world see how much I can do sexually," Janine said as one girl, a cutie named Katherine remarked, "I'm in love with her and if she picked me, I'd keep her happy forever." That's just the kind of response, this porn superstar garners from each and every fan.

By the late afternoon, the exhibitors headed out as they planned to party down at the LFP, VCA and Vivid party at the Venus Lounge. We wandered down the hallway, running into Joey Wilson of the newly formed 3rd Degree Films, suite-less in the show, but commenting, "This is really a breakout experience for us and despite not having a suite, we're already finding that 3rd Degree is getting put on the shelf and proving that there's always space for great sex movies."

Tony Santaro, national sales manager, added, "It's easy when all I have to do is say to people, trust me, take this product in big numbers and if you don't like it, send it back. We've haven't had one return and we're only getting re-orders when the distributors call back." As the two new company owners bounded down the hall in search of a quick drink before the next phase of the evening, one distributor was overheard to say, "Wow, if this is work, then I can't wait for the party!" His buddy, laughing as they got on the elevator to the casino said, "We got lucky here. Hope it carries through to the blackjack table." In Vegas, when you bet on adult, you always come up a winner.
