UCSD Students Battle Censorship with Demonstration

University of California - San Diego students demonstrated on a pivotal point concerning student-run television on Wednesday. Highlights of the day's events included fist fights, double-ended dildo tossing, speeches, and a Jesus band platforming a backdrop of vendors hawking cheap trinkets to secure student loan funds.

The censorship imposed by university administrators late last year used Steve Why’s graphic adult programming as a stage to jump off from that injected already established limits on speech including a complete ban on nudity and similar material.

The demonstration was an attempt to galvanize the generally apathetic student body with the intention that doing so will cause them to vote on the issue. A 15 percent vote by Friday would force student government to remove the station's new restrictions and get them back on the air. Then they would face a battle with the university administrators to do the same. However, it seems that university administrators may not even care.

Because pornography instigated current censorship restrictions, the opposition varies in range. Some students think this is a porn issue, a moral issue or is none of their business, but none have publicly announced support to silence speech.
