Dave Naz has been a rock musician, a fetish and natural girl photographer, and now a Vivid-Alt director, whose debut, Skater Girl Fever, will have a release party Tuesday night in Hollywood.
“It was great,” Naz said of making the video. “And I ended up with what I wanted. I was interested in getting the right girls to get really dirty. Dirty in a way that I like. Girls who look kinda innocent and natural doing things that you wouldn’t expect.
“Like Leah Luv gives Nat Turner a rim job in the movie. And that was like the first time she had ever done that in a movie. Gia Jordan did an anal cream pie on James Deen’s feet. So you know, it was pretty graphic. But thought out. I took kinda a Larry Clark (Kids, Bully) approach as far as the dialogue goes. And it’s fun. You can watch it for that. Or you can just watch the sex. Whatever gets you off.”
Skater Girl Fever, the second release from Eon McKai’s Vivid-Alt, streets Tuesday, and also features Charlotte Stockley, Kimberly Kane, Nadia Styles, Christie Lee, Faith Leon and Tommy Pistol.
Naz, a drummer, guitarist and vocalist, played in L.A.’s Chemical People (punk/alternative rock) and Down by Law (punk) in the ’80s and ’90s, then began his still photography career in 1995. He started out chronicling the L.A. fetish underground for three years, but then sought to expand beyond that niche market to something more commercially viable, and developed his own distinctive look shooting fresh-faced natural girls. Naz has had several anthologies of his photographs published (“Lust Circus,” “Fresh,” “Legs,” etc.), featuring many names in adult, and has also shot extensively for such LFP publications as Barely Legal and Taboo. He even shot the cover of AVN’s November 2005 DVD supplement.
After seeing McKai’s debut release, Kill Girl Kill (VCA Pictures), an impressed Naz e-mailed McKai and said, “‘Hey, great movie,’” Naz recalled. The two began an e-mail correspondence, eventually met at a party for McKai’s Neu Wave Hookers (VCA Pictures), went to lunch, talked more, and finally McKai “asked me if I would be interested in directing a movie” on a non-contractual basis.
Naz said yes.
“Eon basically supplied all the necessary things,” Naz said. “I had no idea what goes into it, but I definitely had a lot of ideas. So he supplied the resources. I shot almost all of the hard core. He did most of the other camera work. All of the soft core and all of the dialogue and all that. I really wasn’t comfortable doing that.
“But the hardcore stuff, I could figure out pretty quick,” Naz said with a laugh.
Does Naz consider Skater Girl Fever to be so-called “Alt-porn”?
“You know, alt-porn is just a way to package it,” he said. “I mean if you look at the movies that are coming out on Vivid-Alt, they’re all different. Winkytiki’s, mine, Eon’s, they are all completely different. So it’s not one specific thing.
“Eon is just trying to — you know in the same way that in the ’80s there was alternative rock,” Naz continued. “Some great bands came out of that. And I think that’s what Eon wants to do. He wants to bring up people that haven’t done it before and give them a chance. I love the movement.”
As for those gossip site posters who are skeptical, hostile even, to the notion of alt-porn, Naz said, “People are so afraid. Just give it a chance. Embrace it. If you don’t like one movie, you might like another.”
While he has no other productions in the works presently, Naz said, “I’m still thinking of ideas. And I’m definitely looking forward to doing another one.”
But for the moment, still photography will still be his bread and butter.
“Definitely. There’s a lot of work that goes into a making a movie,” he said with a laugh. “Ideally, it would be fun to do one or two movies a year.”
