Potential Illinois Strip Club Wins Two-Year Battle with City

A company that wants to open a strip club ended a two year battle with a local community recently as CSWS LLC, the club’s operators, are now set to open the club within a year.

The Daily Southtown reported that the Bedford Park Village Board approved an out-of-court agreement with CSWS LLC at a special meeting Monday. The report went on to say that under the agreement, the company will pay the village $162,500 for a one-year adult license. The owners will pay $150,000 annually to renew that license.

Originally, Bedford Park demanded the club owners pay about $1,500 for the license, village attorney Larry Gryczewski told the Daily Southtown. "We reviewed potential impact of that type of use and felt the increased license fee would be appropriate," Gryczewski said.

The battle began when the village filed a lawsuit in the spring to deny CSWS's request for a special use permit. On the advice of its lawyers, the village ultimately settled the case.

Wayne Giampietro, attorney for CSWS, told the report that his clients are now looking forward to opening their doors. "We're hopeful that the business will open in due course and be successful and pay a lot of taxes to the village so the village will be happy too."

Dancers and club patrons, however, will not be permitted to have any physical contact unless the performer is wearing clothing that covers specific areas.

In their federal lawsuit, CSWS's owners claimed the denial violated free speech rights because the village had no area designated for adult-entertainment businesses.
