Photographer Michael Grecco Seeks Subjects for AVN Awards Book

Pop culture photographer Michael Grecco is seeking subjects to complete a high-end, coffee table book about the AVN Awards.

Grecco and his team -- which includes the book's editors, veteran rock journalist Lonn Friend (RIP magazine, "Life on Planet Rock") and former FHM executive editor Rob Hill -- will be shooting at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas from Jan. 10 - 14.

“At last year’s show, we did the bulk of the work – we shot about eight or nine thousand photographs of 300 different individual people and setups,” Grecco said. “A lot of the portraiture, the body of the book is shot. Now we want to try to go in and find 20 couples or people in a relationship, and take more intimate portraits to notch up the intensity of the book.”

According to Friend, the book will consist of “intimate, erotic portraits -- shot in an edgy, Rolling Stone-like manner -- of the disparate, colorful players that comprise the adult film world. The visuals will be very suggestive and erotic but won’t contain any explicit nudity.

“We are also looking to shoot some avant garde-style personal items, like your wildest pair of shoes, longest eyelashes, funkiest underwear, wildest wig or wickedest whip,” Friend added.

As yet untitled, Grecco’s book is tentatively slated for publication in late 2007 through San Francisco-based Rockout Books. A companion documentary about the making of the photo book is also in the works.

Those interested in taking part in the project may contact Catherine Eng at [email protected]. Photo submissions are welcome (JPEG format only).

Grecco’s work has appeared in such prestigious publications as ESPN, Wired, Time, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Premier, MAXIM, American Photography, Photo Insider, PHOTOgraphic and American Photo. For more information, visit www.michaelgrecco.com.
