Penthouse Announces 3D Channel Launch in 2011

BOCA RATON, Fla.—Penthouse has announced plans to launch the world’s first 3D channel. The news was fittingly delivered during the annual migration of porn and tech fans to the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and the Consumer Electronics Show, respectively, the latter featuring the latest generation of 3D-enabled televisions, which will by definition need 3D programming to justify their existence.

In a prepared statement, Penthouse parent FriendFinder Networks said the PENTHOUSE 3D Channel will feature original adult-oriented programming “shot in native high definition and 3D,” and that the company’s commitment to draws on the strengths of its unique expertise in content delivery, movie making and technological acumen.

"We started shooting in 3D this past summer, and have significantly invested to perfect 3D production quality," said FriendFinder Networks CEO Marc Bell. "Consumer excitement for 3D content is high, and Penthouse is the one studio that can rely on its broad expertise to deliver 3D in a manner unmatched by any other branded entertainment company."

FriendFinder said in the announcement that the PENTHOUSE 3D Channel is expected to be available to system operators for public broadcast in the second quarter of 2011. Penthouse currently operates Penthouse HD, which offers a lineup covering over 30 platforms in more than 15 countries,
